On the Insights dashboard (with no filter) and in the MCP tools get_revenue_report and get_overview_report, revenue and unpaid balances use the same rules. This article is the shared definition.
Net revenue
Net revenue is reportable invoices less reportable credit notes, by issued date, excluding tax, on the kept projects you are allowed to see.
Reportable invoices: active invoices in Awaiting approval or Approved. Draft, written-off and discarded invoices do not count.
Reportable credit notes: kept credit notes that are not draft, deleted or voided. They reduce the total for the period of their issued date.
Projects: kept delivery projects in your Insights scope. Invoices on opportunities or discarded projects do not count.
That is what the Net revenue tile shows. MCP get_revenue_report returns the same total for the dates you ask for, plus net totals by project type and the five projects with the most net revenue. Those project figures also deduct credit notes, so they add up to the total.
Outstanding and overdue
Outstanding and overdue are balances now, not period figures. They are the unpaid ex-tax amount on invoices that are ready for payment.
Ready for payment: invoices whose accounting status is authorised, partial or sent (not a draft still sitting only in the accounting system).
Unpaid ex-tax: if an invoice is partly paid, only the unpaid share of the ex-tax total counts. A fully paid invoice contributes nothing.
Overdue: the same unpaid balance, limited to invoices whose due date is before today. An accounting-system draft is never overdue.
MCP get_overview_report uses those rules for outstanding and overdue. The dashboard Top clients by amount owed tile uses the same unpaid balance maths, and ranks company clients only. The overview total includes every client.
MCP tools and date windows
get_revenue_report: optional start and end dates (default: the current calendar month). Revenue for that range matches the Net revenue tile for the same dates.get_overview_report: optional date in the month (default: today). Monthly revenue and credit notes cover that full calendar month. Outstanding and overdue are current balances on your visible projects.
One date nuance: on the Insights dashboard, the current month for actuals runs through yesterday (month to date). The MCP overview and revenue tools use the full calendar month when you leave the dates at their defaults. Closed past months and custom date ranges match when you pick the same dates on both surfaces.
Expenses on the overview report are unchanged by this alignment and are still a separate figure from Net revenue.
