Insights can show a chart titled Revenue per Project Manager, or Revenue per whichever primary project role you select. It answers “who currently holds the primary role on the projects we invoiced in this period?”, not “who delivered the work when the invoice was raised”.
What the chart measures
Value: net invoiced amount for the selected period (invoices less credit notes), using each invoice’s issued date. Only reportable invoices count (the same approved / awaiting-approval set as other Insights revenue views).
People: whoever currently holds the selected primary project role on each invoiced project.
Split: if several people hold that role on one project, the project’s net revenue is split evenly between them.
Unassigned: if nobody holds that role on the project, the amount goes into an Unassigned bucket.
Display: the top people by attributed value (with an Other bucket when needed). You can switch which primary role the chart uses when your account has more than one.
The chart only appears when your account has a usable primary project role. See Adding primary project roles. Product settings note that only primary role allocations are shown in Drum reports.
It is live, not historical
Attribution always uses the people assigned to that primary role now. Insights does not keep a snapshot of who held the role when each invoice was issued.
The left-hand Staffing area on the project is that live assignment. There is no separate “historical Project Manager” field that stays on the project for reporting while a different person drives Insights. Whatever you put on the primary role seat is what Revenue per Project Manager uses.
So if you remove the delivering project manager from the primary role and put an accounts person on it for invoicing, past-period invoices on that project will start showing against the accounts person when you open the chart. Changing primary role holders rewrites how that project’s historical issued invoices appear in this view.
Keep delivery people on the primary role
If you care about Revenue per Project Manager (or another primary role) reflecting who produced the work, leave those people on the primary role seat after the project is completed as well as while it is active.
Do not move the primary Project Manager seat to accounts just so they can raise invoices. Prefer one of these instead:
Give invoicing staff the account-level permission to create invoices (and use Awaiting Approval / Approved on the invoice when your workflow needs a hand-off).
Assign them a non-primary project role (for example Accounts) that still has Create Invoices permission, so they can invoice without becoming the person Insights attributes revenue to.
Add a process-only task assigned to the invoicing person with a due date, so it appears on their dashboard without changing Staffing. See Drum's Task Types (and how to use them).
Use a project status such as Close-out that PMs set when work is done, and review that status periodically for invoicing, while the delivering PM stays on the primary role.
Avoid putting both the delivering PM and accounts on the same primary role unless you want that revenue split evenly between them.
Completed PMs and the Projects list
Keeping someone as Project Manager on a completed project does not fill their day-to-day Projects list with finished work, as long as you use the default Status behaviour.
On Projects, Status defaults to All active statuses (open / incomplete statuses only). Filtering by Any Project Manager, another primary role, or Any Assigned for a person does not lift that active-only default. You still only see active projects that person is on. Completed jobs they remain PM of stay on Staffing and in Insights, but they do not appear in that active staff filter.
Completed projects only appear when you widen Status to a complete status, or choose Any Status.
Free-text search is not a staff filter
The Projects search box (placeholder: search by name, address or contacts) looks up project name, client, address and contacts. It does not search by who is assigned on Staffing.
To find projects for a person, use the primary-role filters (for example Any Project Manager) or Any Assigned, not the free-text box. Free-text search also changes Status behaviour: when a search is active and Status is left empty, Drum does not apply the active-only default, so completed projects can appear in name/address/contact results.
What this chart is not
It is not a timesheet or “who worked the hours” report. Use Staff / timesheet Insights views for delivery effort.
Even splits and Unassigned can make the bars look odd if projects often have several primary holders or none.
It is not a historical assignment archive. Staffing is live; there is no second historical-PM field for this chart.
