What you'll learn
In this walkthrough, you'll learn when a deliverable needs a custom Rate Card, how to assign one, and how to check that it is being used without changing the rates for other deliverables.
When to use a custom Rate Card
Use a deliverable-level Rate Card when one type of work needs different billable rates from the rest of the project. The custom Rate Card applies only to that deliverable.
Before you start
You have the permissions required to change a deliverable's Rate Card.
You know which deliverable needs the custom Rate Card.
You know which Rate Card you want to apply.
Screenshot 1 Example of a deliverable showing its assigned Rate Card.
A deliverable using a Rate Card other than the project default shows the Rate Card name next to the deliverable. Staff time logged against tasks within that deliverable uses its assigned Rate Card.
Option A: Set the Rate Card directly on the deliverable
1. Open the project and locate the deliverable
Open the project that contains the deliverable, then find it in the deliverables list.
Screenshot 2 Locate the deliverable in the project.
2. Open the three-dot menu
Click the three vertical dots (⋮) to the right of the deliverable row to open its options menu.
Screenshot 3. Open the deliverable's three-dot menu.
3. Select and choose the Rate Card
Choose the option to update or assign a Rate Card, then select the Rate Card you want to apply to the deliverable.
Screenshot 4 Select the Rate Card option and choose the Rate Card.
4. Save your change
Confirm your selection. The deliverable will show the assigned Rate Card's name next to its title.
Screenshot 5 Confirm the custom Rate Card is shown next to the deliverable.
Option B Set the Rate Card through a project variation
1. Create or open a project variation
Start a new variation on the project, or open an existing variation you're working on.
Screenshot 6 Create or open the project variation.
2. Add or select the deliverable
Within the variation, add the deliverable that needs a different Rate Card, or select it if it is already listed.
Screenshot 7 Add or select the deliverable in the variation.
3. Assign the Rate Card
Select the Rate Card option and choose the Rate Card you want to apply to the deliverable.
Screenshot 8 Assign the Rate Card to the deliverable.
4. Save the variation
Save the variation to apply the change.
Screenshot 9 Confirm the Rate Card selection in the variation.
Check your result
The Rate Card name appears next to the deliverable.
New staff time logged against tasks within that deliverable uses the assigned Rate Card.
Other deliverables continue using the project's default Rate Card unless they have their own.
Important: Changing a deliverable's Rate Card applies going forward. Time already logged and billed keeps the rate that was in effect when it was logged.
Cant see the Option? You need the correct permissions to change a deliverable's Rate Card. If the option isn't available, check with your Drum administrator.
Tutorial goal:You should now understand how to assign a custom Rate Card to one deliverable and how to recognise when it is active.
