WHAT IS A RESOURCE TYPE?

A Resource Type is the grouping of Resources for the purpose of improving efficiency and data integrity. The Resource Type/s assigned should loosely align with your staff's position (eg. Civil Engineer, Project Manager, Administration) or other asset description (eg. Field Equipment, Vehicle).

As shown below, a Resource can be allocated one or more Resource Types to ensure integrity with calendar bookings and allocation of tasks. For example, a Project Manager/Senior Engineer with Resource Types of "Project Manager" and "Senior Engineer" can't be incorrectly booked or assigned tasks applicable to a "Designer" or "Director".

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A DEFAULT RESOURCE TYPE?

A Default Resource Type can be assigned against a Resource and should reflect their cost and billable rate. However, if a Resource has their own unique cost and billable rate, this is maintained at a Resource level.

Each Resource Type has its own cost and billable rate which will be allocated against a Resource if the Resource is:

  • Assigned this default resource type; and

  • They do not have a cost or billable rate applied at their Resource level.

TIP: Ensure you refer to Drum's Glossary for full definitions of key terms including Admin, Member, Resource and Resource Type to help you on your way.
