A Location is a site your work happens at (for example a building, construction site or subdivision). Each Location has a Base Code. When you pick a Location on an opportunity or project, Drum shows it as Base Code - Name (for example 3301 - Riverside). That prefix is what people often call the "location number".
Locations also collect the opportunities and projects at that site, and the Base Code can be used when your account numbers projects or opportunities by location.
Turn on Locations
Locations only appear when the feature is enabled for your account.
Open your profile menu and go to Settings.
Open Features.
Turn on Enable Locations.
Once enabled, a Locations tab appears beside Companies and Contacts.
Add a Location
Open Companies (or Contacts), then choose the Locations tab.
Choose Add Location.
Enter a Name (required).
Optionally set Base Code (see below), and optionally add addresses.
Choose Save Location.
How Base Code is set
On Add A New Location or Edit Location, the Base Code field works like this:
Leave it blank when you create the Location. Drum assigns the next number in sequence (one higher than the highest existing numeric Base Code on your account).
Enter a value yourself when you need a legacy or non-standard code (for example an old site code from another system). The code must be unique among active Locations.
You can search Locations by name or Base Code on the Locations list.
Edit a Location or Base Code
Open the Location from the Locations list, or from the link on an opportunity or project Location field.
Edit the Name, Base Code, or addresses as needed.
Choose Save Location.
If the Location already has numbered projects or opportunities, Drum asks you to confirm before saving a Base Code change. Existing record numbers stay as they are. Future numbers that use this Location will use the new Base Code.
Where you see Base Code
On opportunity and project forms, the Location picker lists each site as Base Code - Name. Typing part of the code or name filters the list. You can also create a Location inline from those forms when your account allows it.
Optional: use Base Code in project or opportunity numbers
If your account’s numbering rules include location-based tokens, the Location’s Base Code (and a per-site iteration) can form part of new project or opportunity numbers. That is optional and only applies when those tokens are configured in your numbering settings.
Changing a Base Code later does not rewrite numbers already assigned to existing records.
